Selam !
Haigh!
Salam Khobi?
Namaste! I Karan Moudgil , a hodophile or a wanderer , you may even call me a roadie , I dont mind either of them am here to talk about my recent experience to the city of love, affection, lights, colours, flavours and aroma's Delhi. "Ye dilli h mere yaar bas ishq mohbbat pyaar" !. I usually feel like singing this whenever I travel to Delhi. I remember having read that years ago it was known as Indraprastha, with the advent of Muslims in India , ofcourse it changed to Dillika and various other names. Dint wanted to hangout at Qutub Minar , the Red Fort or Lotus Temple , hence decided to explore & traverse the mystic Mehrauli , a neighbourhood in South Delhi , wont go in details. I took the yellow line metro got off at Qutub Minar Metro station, took a cab and reached the destination. While visiting Mehrauli , I came across the sumptuous Azim Khan Tomb, the breathtaking Qutub Minar & imposing Adham Khan's Tomb. I walked through the populated & crowded streets of Mehrauli & entered the back gates of Mehrauli Archaeological Park. The first thing that I saw as I entered were few unknown graves, after which I came across this opulent & imperial Rajon Ki Baoli.
Baoli or Bawri are steep wells now maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. Rajon Ki Baoli is a rare steepwell or an archaeological site of the 15th century, the times of Delhi Sultanate. I dont know the depth of the baoli but heard that it is three storeys deep even below the ground level . It also constitutes a well at the inner side which I remember was dry by now.
Medallions & stone carvings enhance the beauty and add splendour to the stone structure. Anyways I managed to click myself at the baoli , just posting for you all to witness the beauty of hidden treasures across the nation.
